Bollywood 101: Lesson 1: Disco Dancer

Does the picture above scare you? Smiley Anyway, I have now been officially introduced to Bollywood with the 1982 Epic Disco Dancer! This fine film has a lot of plot lines that I’ve been told are common to a lot of Bollywood movies, like a crying mother and of course the main man and woman in the movie coming together through song and dance! For coming out in 1982, it’s interesting that Disco Dancer would hit after the Disco scene in America had died. For an interesting look at the last days of disco, I highly recommend The Last Days of Disco movie. Disco Dancer overall has many ups and downs throughout the tough life of a Indian street performer from Bombay who goes on to become a International Disco Legend! This is a fun film to watch, it may scar you, but it’s fun to MST3K your way though. Smiley Click the link on the picture above for a more in depth review of the film.

So what is it that drove you to start exploring Bollywood?

Two things really, the trailer of the Bollywood version of Fight Club and when a friend of mine originally sent me the review for this fine film. :)

I take full responsibility for corrupting the (once) innocent Bryce into the garish dementia of Hindi films.  Now he just needs to watch the Crazy Safari and Child of Peach HK discs I loaned him and that should be enough of a catalyst to turn his already melty brain into JELLY. 😀
